On December 14, 2009 the U.S. Department of State proposed creating a new rule to increase the application processing fees for nonimmigrant Visas. There would be a tiered structure of fees, meaning different fees depending on the Visa categories. They propose to raise the fees to ensure the government has sufficient resources to cover the increasing cost of processing Visa applications.
