The B-Visa (visitor visa) is a nonimmigrant visa that allows foreign nationals to stay for a limited time in the U.S.. The B-1 Visa allows a visit for business purposes, and the B-2 Visa allows a visit for tourist purposes or medical treatment in the U.S..

With the issued B-1 / B-2 Visa you are not allowed to work in the United States. However, it is legally permitted to lecture at universities and to participate in negotiations and meetings. Keep in mind that the incurred fees or royalties for your services are taxable.

Federal Tax

The U.S. government levies taxes on personal income to fund government programs such as the military, foreign affairs, law enforcement and interest on national debt.

State Tax

The respective state in which you are being trained levies a state tax. The State Tax is made up of taxes (income tax, sales tax, land tax and property tax) and is levied by the local taxing authorities. The tax rate varies from state to state.

Federal Insurance Contributions Act (FICA) Tax

The social security contributions have to be paid by the employer and employee. The contributions are levied to fund the social security system (national health insurance and health care of the elderly).

Local Tax

The council tax is levied by the municipality to fund public facilities.

B-Visa holders are required by law to file a tax return if the annual income was more than $3,650.
